Watch: Back with Christmas Eve Message, Kevin Spacey Turns Serious

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

"What would Christmas Eve be without a message from me?" asks Kevin Spacey at the beginning of his latest holiday message. But unlike the ones from the past two years, the disgraced actor does not assume his Frank Underwood character from "House of Cards," writes the Daily News. Instead "shared a two-minute video Thursday in which promised hope for anyone considering suicide."

Shot on his smartphone, first sitting then walking though a park, Spacey says that this year "a lot" of people have reached out to him with their struggles, some saying they are contemplating suicide.

"My ability to be there for them has really only been possible because of my own difficulties," the Oscar winner said. "And while it has been a privilege to offer support, I have to say, frankly, it's also been beyond my abilities. It's bigger than me."

It enough for him "to want to take an entirely different approach this year. To acknowledge their pain. And to say to anyone out there struggling, or contemplating that idea, please, please do not take that step. If you're standing in a place that you can no longer remain standing, if you're suffering and need help, if you feel guilt or shame, if you're struggling with your identity, if your back's up against the wall or if you feel that there is no path for you, whatever your situation, I promise you there is a path and that at this time, during this holiday and beyond, even if you don't feel it, there are people out there who understand and who can help, because you are not alone. And so I just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a great 2021. And to say to all those out there that may be suffering, it gets better. It does get better. Happy Holidays everyone."

Spacey career went on hold after allegations of sexual assault that began in 2017 when actor Anthony Rapp accused the actor of sexually assaulting him when he was 14 at a New York party. "Since Rapp first revealed the alleged assault at the age of 14, dozens of men have come forward with similar accusations against Spacey. The actor, who came out as gay when he denied Rapp's allegations, has denied any wrongdoing," adds the Daily News. This past September Rapp and an anonymous accuser filed a civil lawsuit in New York State court Manhattan against Spacey for alleged sexual assaults.

Spacey ends the video with the number for the Suicide Prevention Hotline.
