From 'Board Shorts and Shirtless' to Antoni Porowski: Dylan Efron Opens Up about His 'Fashion Journey'

Travel influencer and "The Traitors" breakout star Dylan Efron and "Queer Eye" star Antoni Porowski took their friendship to a new level when Porowski dressed Efron up for a recent photo shoot.

The two discussed their friendship and mutual love of fashion travel with Paper Magazine. Efron admitted to "fanboying over Antoni" when they met up "at a Filson event in Seattle," after which the two "flew to Whidbey Island on a seaplane."

It was clear from the first moment that the two were on the same wavelength. Efron explained how, at the event, "Everyone's drinking, celebrating, but he's up at 8 AM running by himself, staying in shape."

"That really speaks to the way he ties together fashion and health and wellness."

Porowski agreed: "We were moving the same way on that trip, running around and moving lots, while others were hungover and staying out. We were the first ones to be like, I'm crashing."

The pals stayed in touch, trading tips about travel destinations and clothing. "Then I went to the Todd Snyder show," Porowski said, referencing New York Fashion Week, "and he reached out, saying, 'Hey, "Traitors" reunion is coming up, tell me about the look.'"

"It's really perfect for Dylan," Porowski added of the label, "super Americana, classic cuts, wider shoulders."

Enthused Efron: "I was like, This is what I want to look like in New York."

When it comes to fashion sense, they come from very different places. Porowski admitted to being "a very nostalgic person" with "a strong loyalty to things that I responded to when I was a kid," such as Ralph Lauren styles.

"At the same time, I refuse to get ready in more than five minutes," Porowski added. "I don't have the patience to put a full outfit together. I see a piece I like and build from there."

For Efron, though, the vibe is pure endless summer and hiking trail. "Board shorts, white tee, no shoes, that's my comfort clothing," the 33-year-old disclosed. "I loved camping, if I wasn't at the beach, so I love having rugged clothes – like jeans I haven't washed in two months with mud stains."

"I don't like being put in a box," Efron went on to say. "My only real style until now has been board shorts and shirtless. So I love the idea of dabbling in fashion. I'm very much on my fashion journey right now."

The two offered their differing responses to fame, as well.

"Viral moments are strange because it's fun, but – there's this quote, like, when I enter a room I want to be seen, but I want to be left alone," Porowski explained. "There is something fun about the electricity and excitement of being in the cultural zeitgeist, but it's also terrifying."

"There are moments when I'm grocery shopping, you know, with my headphones in and someone is asking for my photo," Efron shared. "I'm like, Oh shit, I'm in Trader Joe's right now."

"Boundaries are really healthy to have," Porowski put in. "I'm a true New Yorker, I'm speed-walking everywhere. I think we call it 'gay fear.'"

"I do have rules," Porowski added; "if I'm sitting and enjoying a meal with friends, I'll treat them with kindness of course, but I'm less likely to take a photo with them."

Naturally, the talk turned to "The Traitors," the season finale for which aired earlier this month.

"I'm excited to experience it with everyone, for everyone to see the conclusion," Efron said. "I had the experience in real life, and then this second experience watching on TV. It'll be like putting a bow on the experience."

Added the reality show's heartthrob: "Sometimes I'm prepared for something I'm not looking forward to and then it doesn't make the cut. Sometimes I forgot something and it ends up in there, like the 'Miss Guided' thing. I didn't remember that happening, I was laughing in real time with everyone else."

That was also, arguably, his most memorable fashion moment so far.
