"The Gilded Age" star Carrie Coon gave props to the gays for the show's upcoming third season.
Coon plays the relentlessly social-climbing Bertha Russell on the Julian Fellowes-created show. Bertha is determined to dominate the New York social scene despite her nouveau riche status, while her railroad magnate husband, George (Morgan Spector), is just as hardball in the business arena as Bertha is in the milieu of opera houses, drawing rooms, and charity events.
A tuxedo-clad Coon acknowledged Ralph Lauren for her outfit and gave her thanks to the show's queer viewers in comments to Entertainment Tonight during a red carpet event celebrating the premiere of "The White Lotus," which is also heading into a third season.
"I'll never be able to describe it to anyone," Coon said of her stint on the show, where she played Laurie, one of a trio of longtime friends who stay at the resort's Thailand locale.
Coon mostly shared the screen with Michelle Monaghan and Leslie Bibb in the new season of the acclaimed Mike White anthology series.
As for "The Gilded Age," "The gays saved it," Coon told ET. "Thank you right now, you saved it," she added, addressing viewers at home. "We would not have a season three without you. It's absolutely true."
Gay Twitter showed appreciation to the star in return.
"anything for you mother" one person posted in response to the ET video clip.
"Anything for mother" someone else posted, while a third enthused, "she is tooooo real for this😆".
"at least she knows and is appreciative lol," another added.
Others turned their praises toward the show itself, which is set during a period in the 1880s when America's moneyed class, like today's billionaires, was ascendant.
"I mean it's freaking great, it deserves *at least* as many seasons and movies as downton abbey 😄" one fan declared, referencing Fellowes' British-produced series about a noble family and their estate during a period of social transition in England. "Downton Abbey" ran for six seasons, with two movies produced in the wake of the show's success. A third film has also been announced for release later this year.
"'The Gilded Age' was renewed for a third season days after Season 2 concluded in December 2023, following solid ratings for the period drama," Deadline recalled. "The third season of the drama is currently filming."
