"Nightbitch" star Amy Adams has a big gay following, and her fans are so devoted that they "won't rest" in their passionate belief that the six-time Oscar nominee should have a statuette to call her own.
Adams learned of those gay fans over the weekend in a conversation with Entertainment Tonight that included her "Arrival" director Denis Villeneuve – who also directed "Dune," Parts 1 and 2 – and "Dune" star Timothée Chalamet.
Adams was informed by ET's Denny Directo that "there is a legion of fans, specifically gay men, who will not rest until you have your Oscar."
"I didn't know," Adams said, smiling. "But thank you!"
"We like to attach ourselves to a powerful woman and just be like, 'Yes, we're in for it!'" Directo said of gay men's allegiance to the Adams. "Plus, hello, your body of work!"
Adams kicked off her film career with 1999's "Drop Dead Gorgeous," then followed up in 2000 with "Psycho Beach Party." She went on to star in "Cruel Intentions 2" (2000), "Serving Sara" (2002), "Catch Me if You Can" (2002), "Junebug" (2005), and a plethora of other films, including a trio of DC films in which she portrayed Superman's love interest, Lois Lane.
Adams' first Oscar nomination was for her supporting role in "Junebug," and she was nominated for the Academy Award in four other supporting roles as well, for the films "Doubt" (2008), "The Fighter" (2010), "The Master" (2012), and "Vice" (2018). She was also nominated for Best Actress for "American Hustle" (2013).
After Directo told Adams of her gay fans' determination to see her win an Oscar, he then noted that those same gay male fans are keen to see Adams play the role of Taylor Swift's publicist, Tree Paine, in a biopic of Swift.
"I don't know if it will happen," Adams said of that idea, "but I'm here for it."
The conversation took place at the 36th Palm Springs International Film Festival, which is in full swing through Jan. 13.
With awards chatter swirling around Adams' star turn in "Nightbitch," she might be collecting that gold trophy sooner rather than later.
