Tom Daley Posts Family Pic, and Wishes He Had Come Out Sooner

Olympian Tom Daley joined his husband, Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, in Canada and shared a sweet IG of the couple and their 3-year-old son Robbie.

The 27-year-old Daley joined his 47-year-old husband in Canada, where Black's latest project –"Under the Banner of Heaven" – is being filmed. Black wrote the screenplay to the upcoming crime drama television miniseries based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Jon Krakauer. It stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Brenda and "Spider Man" actor Andrew Garfield as Pyre. It is being directed by David Mackenzie.

Daley wrote in the IG: "REUNITED WITH MY LOVES."

The Olympian also spoke to British GQ about his career this week, in an interview in which he explained how it was both difficult and surreal to come out in the public eye.

"It was kind of traumatic, but then [also] a very liberating experience. To be honest, I wish I had come out earlier. I don't know what that would have been like for me or whatever, but since coming out I've felt like I could be myself; all of that pressure comes off. I look back and think, 'Imagine if I was out when I was 16, 17, when I first started exploring?' One thing that's hard is exploring sexuality in the public eye. I think if I wasn't in the public eye maybe things would be different. It's a very surreal thing to have to go through that in the public eye."

Daley also expressed how openly homophobic nations, such as Russia or Qatar, should not be hosting international sporting events. "I just think that any country that has, you know, laws criminalizing LGBT shouldn't be hosting major sporting events. A country like Russia should not be hosting major sporting events [or] the World Cup in Qatar. No wonder there's no out footballers. When you see how racism in sport is still so prevalent, homophobia is definitely going to be there [too]."

And he discussed his unlikely celebrity as someone who knits and crochets, with some 1.4 million followers of his IG account dedicated to the craft. A photo of him crocheting at the last summer's Olympics went viral.

"It is meditative, like a form of mindfulness. I'm someone who's always up and about doing something. I'm not someone just to sit in front of a TV. So for me it was a great way to be able to sit down and recover and relax and be occupied at the same time. And it stopped me overthinking so many things, especially at the Olympic Games, when there was nothing to do other than sit there with your own thoughts and think about your condition and go through these waves of anxiety."
