MTV's Docuseries 'True Life' to Air Episode About Pulse Survivors

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

MTV's long-lasting docuseries "True Life" will air a special episode next month that follows survivors of the Pulse gay club shooting in Orlando, Fla. - the country's deadliest mass shooting in modern history, Deadline reports.

"True Life: We Are Orlando" will follow four survivors as they cope with the incident, which left 49 people dead and injured dozens, and try to get their lives back on track.

Deadline writes:

Viewers will meet the subjects and follow their stories as the docuseries is being filmed. Beginning July 26, MTV will release exclusive videos while production is still happening via MTV's social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat Discover and tumblr. In addition, there will be more than a dozen digital shorts for the episode leading up to the August 15 premiere of the TV episode. The digital clips will include exclusive footage which will not be included in the final TV episode, as well as interviews and footage of other LGBTQ community members from Orlando who will not appear during the one-hour TV episode, but who were in Pulse during the attack or were impacted by the shooting.

"True Life" will follow Tony Marrero, who was shot four times in the attack, including once in the back. His story will focus on healing from his physical wounds and accepting the loss of his best friend Luis Vielma, who was shot dead in the attack.

Patience Carter, Tiara Parker as well as her cousin Akyra, who will be featured on the show, were at Pulse while on vacation from Philadelphia. The young women were hiding in the bathroom during Omar Mateen's three-hour standoff with police.

Joshua McGill will also be on "True Life." During the attack, he was hiding behind a car where he heard Rodney Sumter, a bartender at the club and a father of two, crying for help. He was shot multiple times and McGill made a tourniquet out of his shirt to stop the bleeding in Sumter's arms.

The episode will air on MTV on August 15 at 8 p.m.
