READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Actor Kevin Spacey has taken to social media to address widespread rumors that he is homeless, following a recent interview with The Telegraph that sparked concern among fans and media outlets. Spacey clarified that while he does not currently have a permanent home and is living in hotels and Airbnbs as he travels for work, he is not homeless in the way most people understand the term. The actor emphasized that he has a roof over his head and is not living on the streets, despite the headlines that have circulated in recent days .

Spacey’s comments came after a headline in The Telegraph described him as “homeless, cancelled, and crooning in Cyprus, ” which led to a flurry of articles and social media posts speculating about his living situation. In a video posted to his Instagram account, Spacey addressed the rumors directly, stating, “I don’t usually make it my business to correct the media; if I did, I wouldn’t have time for much else. But in light of the recent articles claiming I am homeless, I feel the need to respond” . He went on to thank the thousands of fans who reached out to offer him a place to stay or simply to check on his well-being, expressing his appreciation for their generosity and support .

In his interview with The Telegraph, Spacey explained that he has been living out of hotels and Airbnbs while traveling for work, a situation he likened to the early days of his career when he would go wherever the work took him. He noted that his belongings are in storage and that he hopes to settle down again if his circumstances improve. Spacey also revealed that he lost his Baltimore mansion to foreclosure last year, a result of the financial strain caused by years of legal battles over sexual assault allegations. He stated, “The costs over these last seven years have been astronomical. I’ve had very little coming in and everything going out” .

Spacey was acquitted of sexual misconduct charges in July 2023 after a four-week trial, but the legal proceedings have left him with significant financial burdens. He admitted that his financial situation is “not great” and that he almost filed for bankruptcy at one point. Despite these challenges, Spacey remains grateful for the opportunities to work and for the support of his fans .

The actor also took aim at The Telegraph for what he described as a “knowingly misleading headline” that has perpetuated the homeless rumor. He praised the journalist, Mick Brown, for his reporting but criticized the outlet for using a headline that he feels misrepresented his situation. Spacey emphasized that while he is not homeless, he is aware of the real struggles faced by those who are, and he expressed empathy for people living on the streets or in difficult financial situations .
