DJ Tracy Young :: The Birthday Remix!

JC Alvarez READ TIME: 3 MIN.

It's not as if DJ Tracy Young needs to have a reason to invite a couple hundred...if not a thousand or so...of her favorite people out for a night to hear her spin masterfully on the turntables, but it is her birthday and the vivacious Virginian-born vixen has some serious celebrating to do - and she's taking over one of Manhattan's hottest dance spaces and sharing it with all of her closest friends...that includes you!

Her ageless enthusiasm is infectious! It's that same excitement that is infamous on the international club floor circuit and has entertained the masses that follow Tracy Young from sea to shining sea. Now that she has taken residence in the greatest city on the club crawl, after stints in Miami and LA, Young is turning her attention to re-stimulating New York City with a little of her signature forever young flare.

"You got that right!" she says about turning out a party for the ages. "Now that I'm in New York, I wanted to make this an event," she shared. "That's why I chose District 36." The vastly popular midtown discotheque will house the festivities, although Young holds a still-reliably well attended residency at Splash, the Chelsea mainstay which is still very close and dear to her. "I love Splash and they've always been very good to me, but I wanted to make this special."

Set To Appear...

The birthday bash is not only an opportunity for Tracy Young to reconnect with her diehard fans, but also to help inspire a new generation of followers and make them aware of her vital contributions to the pop musical culture. She's enlisted the help of some friends for the evening. To host an event of this magnitude Young found the stylishly decadent Patricia Field a perfect fit. "I love Pat - she's a dear friend and I feel that this is kind of my 'official' NYC debut." It's only appropriate that one of the city's most in vogue personalities do the duty of presenting the dance floor debutant.

Club favorite DJ Eddie Elias will also be sharing the spotlight for some of the evening's soundtrack, but the biggest surprise of the night is one that Young herself is unveiling. "It's not a secret...I just did a remix for Deborah Cox and I asked her to help celebrate my birthday." Cox is performing live and premiering her latest track "If It Wasn't For Love" and the remix that sparked Young's return to the production studio.

"It's been a while. I haven't been very inspired in the studio," Young admits. She did fashion an electrifying reworking of Britney Spears' chart-topper "Hold It Against Me" earlier this year for the femme fatale, but has otherwise kept herself occupied with her multi-city club dates. "For me, it was a more personal thing," she insists. "I heard Deborah's original version of the song and I wanted to do it so bad. I chose to do it - on a creative level."

Forever Young

Though lately, popular music has benefitted from the heavily synth sounds and pulsating prowess that DJ producers are creating and successfully commercializing, to some degree the art of the remix has stalled. "It kind of gets lost especially among the unofficial remixes," Young suggests, "and it doesn't have the same effect that it used to. This is my love, my passion, my everything." And it's how Young and other remix producers make their living when not on the road catering to the raved up revelers.

It seemed fitting that with so many firsts to celebrate: a new city to conquer, a new hit single to kick off things - "It's my first time working with Deborah Cox and I'm very excited - I frankly think it's one of my best works." Tracy Young deserves to blow the candles on top of another sweet delight, and if she decides that she wants us all in on the party, then who are we to turn down an invitation like that?
