Watch: Instagram Account Shames Gay Men Partying Amid Pandemic

Saturday January 9, 2021

An Instagram that shames gay men who are partying during the pandemic was created in the summer of 2020 but it's already earned over 40,000 — and growing.

Called @gaysovercovid, the account shares images and videos —often times posted by Instagram users — that show men partying despite the global COVID-19 pandemic (EDGE cannot verify all of the posts), adding snarky captions and dragging those featured. Most recently, the account posted about the party boat that sank in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — where many gay men are partying to ring in 2021 despite COVID precautions.

"In a series finale ending to 2020 in Puerto Vallarta, the party boat, PV Delice, sank to the bottom of the ocean. Crew frantically called for help to rescue about 60 passengers on board," @gaysovercovid writes, adding, "And just stay home!!"

The account also singles out people who posted their get togethers over the holidays and posted several photos of gay men partying during the summer.

As previously reported, New Year's Eve celebrations were being held in Puerto Vallarta. Additionally, a circuit party in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, was closed down by police on December 29.
