Former One Direction member turned film star Harry Styles is in talks to star as the gay titular character in Amazon Studios' as-yet-untitled adaptation of the novel "My Policeman," by Bethan Roberts, Digital Spy reports.

Lily James is also in talks to star in the film, adapted by "Philadelphia" screenwriter Ron Nyswaner, Deadline reports.

The novel follows a closeted policeman in the 1950s who attempts to juggle two romances - one gay, one straight - and the consequences that follow for all three.

Styles recently signed on to star in Olivia Wilde's film "Don't Worry Darling." His film career began with the 2017 Christopher Nolan World War II drama "Dunkirk."
