Ruby Rose Alleges CW's 'Batwoman' had Toxic Workplace, Execs Respond
Actor Ruby Rose has come out swinging against Warner Bros. Television and her time as lead for the studio's CW drama "Batwoman."
As reported by Deadline, Rose posted a lengthy address to their Instagram stories, announcing "enough is enough," and directly addressing the CW, Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries, Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.
"I'm going to tell the whole world what really happened on that set. I will come for you so what happened to me never happens to another person again," Rose wrote. "And so I can finally take back my life and the truth. Shame on you."
About the "Batwoman" role — which has since gone to out bisexual actor Javicia Leslie — Rose says they wouldn't return for "any amount of money nor if a gun were to my head."
Moreover, nor did Rose quit the role.
"I DID NOT QUIT," they wrote. "They ruined Kate Kane and they destroyed Batwoman, not me. I followed orders, and if I wanted to stay I was going to have to sign my rights away. Any threats, any bullying tactics or blackmail will not make me stand down."
In response to Rose's message, Warner Bros Television studio execs countered with a terse message citing Rose as the problem on set after an investigation into their behavior. As reported by Deadline, the studio released the following:
Despite the revisionist history that Ruby Rose is now sharing online aimed at the producers, the cast and crew, the network, and the Studio, the truth is that Warner Bros. Television had decided not to exercise its option to engage Ruby for season two of Batwoman based on multiple complaints about workplace behavior that were extensively reviewed and handled privately out of respect for all concerned.
The statement confirms rumors that Rose was fired from the role.
Signing off on her post, Rose further proclaimed that "it's time for me to take my life back and to breathe again after all these years."
